Elementary Orientation

Aloha Pincushion Families!

Welcome. The 2017-2018 school year is fast approaching, and we are proud to be celebrating our 55th year of serving families in the MetroWest area. We are looking forward to seeing you and your children at the Elementary Orientation on Tuesday, September 5th at 3:00 p.m. Please meet in the Elementary Classroom.

The Elementary Orientation is an important piece of the experience here at Pincushion. Our planned agenda will give you and your children time to get an overview of the upcoming school year, explore the classroom, and to complete any necessary paperwork while the students meet the Art Teacher and make cards to send to those affected by Hurricane Harvey. We will end our orientation with a “Pincushion Popsicle” outside, where you and your children will have an opportunity to explore and play.

PHMS Elementary Orientation Agenda

3:00 p.m. All: Welcome Activity, Meet the Teacher and Specialists, Brief Overview, and Explore the Classroom
(Elementary Classroom)

3:20 p.m. Children: Meet the Art Teacher and Card Making (Art Room)

Parents: Meet with Mrs. Lovell and Mrs. Kovago (Elementary Classroom)

3:45 p.m. All: “Pincushion Popsicle” and Explore the Grounds (Outside)

To make the first day of school easier for you and your children, please bring the following to the orientation on Tuesday.

Clothing: 2 changes of (labeled) clothing
(2 shirts, 2 pairs of pants, 2 pairs of socks, 2 pairs of underwear)

Shoes: Indoor Shoes

Supplies: One 3-inch binder and dividers with tabs
3 boxes of tissues

Quick Info:
We are a nut free school. In addition to bringing in their own lunch, elementary students will each bring in their own snacks this year. Please provide well-balanced snacks for your child (fruits, vegetables, proteins, grains) in order to provide the necessary fuel for learning. There will be a morning snack, lunch, and an afternoon snack each day. In addition, if your child will be in aftercare, please provide an additional snack.

Students must also include a fork and spoon each day for their snacks/lunch. Since the set will go back and forth each day, you may want to purchase a few inexpensive sets, or use extras from home. We will be making cloth napkins for use in the classroom.

About Me:

I am so pleased to join the Pincushion Hill Montessori School community. After spending twenty plus years working in healthcare/business, I changed careers and completed a PBTL program in Elementary Education (grades 1-6) at Framingham State University. While at Framingham State, I was inducted into KDP (education honors society) where I served as historian, as well as being inducted into AUA (literacy honors society). I was also selected as a speaker at the PBTL completer ceremony. I have attended both the International Literacy Association Conference in Boston (2016) and the Massachusetts Reading Association Conference (2017). I love to help my students find literacy connections to all the curriculum areas.

My undergraduate degree is in a STEM field, and I have a particular interest in integrating STEM across the curriculum. My goal is to guide your children as they develop into strong, independent, and self-directed learners with a love of learning that will last a lifetime. I look forward to getting to know all of you during our time together at Pincushion Hill. In addition to the joy that teaching brings, I love to read, spend time with my husband and son (a high school senior), and to relax on the beach.
